Dead turtles, dolphins on Sri Lanka beaches renew fears of environmental damage after ship disaster


The X-Press Pearl, a Singapore-flagged container ship, reported a fireplace aboard on Could 20 whereas close to the port of Colombo. The blaze burned for greater than per week, whereas efforts to maneuver the ship to deeper waters failed. The ship was holding hazardous chemical compounds equivalent to nitric acid, sodium methoxide and methanol. Additionally aboard have been billions of lentil-sized plastic pellets, referred to as nurdles, which spilled into the water and blanketed close by seashores because the ship sank.
