Macy Gray Says Time’s Up For U.S. Flag, Calls For Redesign



Macy Grey has sparked an incredible debate amid altering instances within the U.S.: A name to revamp the American flag.  

The Grammy award-winning singer proposed that the flag needs to be designed for all 50 states and their individuals in an op-ed printed at MarketWatch. She argues that the flag now not is a logo of “democracy and freedom.”

Though the American flag changed the Accomplice battle flag, Grey sees a standard thread between the 2 regardless of years of change.

“The Accomplice battle flag, which was crafted as a logo of opposition to the abolishment of slavery, is only in the near past drained,” she writes. “We don’t see it a lot anymore.”

The U.S. flag, nonetheless, continues to replicate the widespread racial tensions of the Accomplice flag,  together with what it means to Individuals, and why predominantly Black Washington, D.C. and predominantly brown Puerto Rico usually are not represented by stars.  

“Let’s have a look at the celebs.” Grey writes. “There are 50, the place there needs to be 52. D.C. and Puerto Rico have been lobbying for statehood for many years. Each have been denied since statehood would enable every territory’s elected officers seats in the home. Assuming D.C. reps could be African-American and Puerto Rican reps could be Hispanic, the last word assumption is that these elected officers could be Democratic. That alone is racist.”

To finish her argument, Grey suggests remaking the flag to be as various because the nation.


“What if the celebs had been the colours of ALL of us — your pores and skin tone and mine — just like the melanin scale? The blue sq. represents vigilance and perseverance, and the crimson stripes stand for valor. America is all of these issues.”
